It’s official. The city of Málaga will host a new edition of the Copa del Rey. The ACB announced this Monday, after ending Badalona 2023, that the ko tournament returns to Andalusia as it did in 2020 at the Martín Carpena or in 2022 in Granada. For what the Costa del Sol will live from February 15 to 18, 2024 a new great basketball event for which he Unicaja already has its position secured as a host team.
The ACB, the Junta de Andalucía, the Diputación and the Málaga City Council have held several meetings in recent weeks to finalize the new destination for the competition. The different institutional representations accompanied Unicaja this Sunday in the final, but they also went to the Olímpic to finalize all the agreements.
The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports of the Junta de Andalucía, Arturo Bernal, highlighted the “good harmony” with the ACB. “The bet from the Andalusian Government is double, on the one hand attract large events to the community and on the other, that they serve as an incentive to spread and create sports practice habits among Andalusians”. The counselor also thanked the Malaga Provincial Council and City Council for their collaboration.
“Malaga is a province that loves the basket and the Martín Carpena is the ideal place to host the next edition of the Cup del Rey, where Unicaja will have the honor of defending the title”, pointed out the president of the Provincial Council, Francisco Salado.
For his part, the mayor of Malaga, Francis of the Toweracknowledged that “The celebration of the Cup in Malaga in 2024 will be an opportunity to enjoy the best basketball in Spain —which is among the best in Europe and, therefore, in the world— for the fans of all of Andalusia, and especially the people from Malaga, to whom Unicaja has just given a joy for which all of us from Malaga feel tremendously proud”.
So the countdown has already started. Unicaja will defend the title and will do so in Malaga, in front of their fans and with the dream of repeating the miracle already accomplished in Badalona.
