Sweden will study the possibility of hosting the 2030 Winter Olympic Games

Sweden will study the possibility of hosting the 2030 Winter Olympic Games, the Swedish Olympic Committee (SOC) announced on Wednesday.

Sweden previously claimed to host the 2026 Olympic Games, including the Latvian city of Sigulda, together with Stockholm and Ori, in its offer, where it was planned to hold competitions in luge, bobsleigh and skeleton.

The home of the Olympic Games was chosen in June 2019 by a vote of individual members of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and the application of the Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo received 47 votes, while Sweden received 34 votes.

“We have learned a lot from the previous candidacy. We have now established communication with Swedish politicians and businessmen before starting work on research,” said SOC Vice President Hans von Uthmanns.

Dace Gulbe, head of the communication service of the Latvian Olympic Committee (LOC), confirmed to the LETA agency that in connection with the possible candidacy in 2030, the Swedish side had an informal conversation with the LOC, but there is no further progress in this matter yet.

The SOC statement also did not mention where the competition in ice track sports could be held. Sweden does not have its own track.

Support for Stockholm-Ore’s candidacy in 2019 was expressed by the then Prime Minister of Sweden, Stefan Löven, and the Mayor of Stockholm, Anna Koenig Jerlmira, as well as famous brands such as “Telia”, “Spotify”, “Ericsson”, “Scania”, “Tele2″, ” Founders and managers of H&M, SEB Group.

Stockholm-Ore’s candidacy also received support from the three regions that were intended to host the Olympic Games in Sweden. A joint letter of support was supported by the heads of the regional executive committees of Stockholm, Herjedalen and Dalarna fiefdoms.

Support for the Olympic Games was also expressed by the prominent Wallenbergs, who have long been recognized as a family of Swedish diplomats, politicians, businessmen and investors.

In 2019, the IOC decided that it can give preference to certain cities in negotiations on hosting the games, in order to avoid situations where other potential organizers spend huge sums of money in their bids. In this way, at the IOC session, Brisbane, Australia, was chosen as the host of the 2032 Summer Olympic Games.
