Jakarta

Indonesian men’s badminton player Jonatan Christie has successfully won the title at the 2023 Indonesia Masters. As a result of this success, he is now ranked second in the world, replacing Anthony Sinisuka Ginting.

This certainty was known after the Badminton World Federation (BWF) returned toupdate the latest ranking list this week or as of January 31, 2023.

From the list listed on the official website of the world badminton federation, only Indonesian representatives have experienced changes, especially in the top 10 rankings.

Jonathan, who was previously ranked third, moved up one level, at the same time shifting the position of Anthony Ginting who was previously ranked second in the world. The 2018 Asian Games champion collected 80,612 points, a difference of 3,033 points from Ginting.

Jonathan is grateful for this achievement. “Praise God. I am grateful that I have come this far in second place,” said Jonathan, when asked about his latest ranking at Istora GBK, Jakarta.

“Yeah maybe, other people thought last year there weren’t too many titles. But with me being able to be in second place, maybe that also proves that it’s consistent enough, to compete in the big super 1000, 750, and 500,” he said.

Not only Jonatan, Chico, who yesterday also succeeded in making the all Indonesia final for the 2023 Indonesia Masters, his ranking has increased dramatically. The athlete from Papua rose eight levels to 15th place, and now has 50,898 points.
