SheBelieves Cup | Canadians win 2-0 against Brazil

(Nashville) Vanessa Gilles and Evelyne Viens scored for Canada in a 2-0 win over Brazil at the SheBelieves Cup on Sunday.

The United States had won the previous game of the tournament, against Japan, by a score of 1-0.

This victory allowed them to take the lead of the standings for the last matches of the tournament on Wednesday, in Texas.

Gilles scored the first goal of the match during the 31e minute of play. It was his third international goal. Come then added Canada’s lead to the 71e minute.

Canada, which lost 2-0 to the Americans on Thursday, is second in the standings with the win over Brazil.

All four teams are using the SheBelieves Cup to prepare for the World Cup this summer in Australia and New Zealand.

Canada is in a labor dispute with its federation. The team originally planned to boycott its activities during the SheBelieves Cup; she was also absent from training before the start of the competition.

The Canadian men’s and women’s teams have been in negotiations since last year for a new contract.

The women’s team demands a salary equal to that of the men’s team.

Janine Beckie played her 100e career game with the national team.
