“She dropped it like a tear” | Maradona’s first goal in Boca in the voice of Víctor Hugo

February 22 is not another day for the soccer homeland. That day, in 1981, a young Diego Maradona made his debut with two goals for Boca and the bond between Víctor Hugo Morales and Diego was born, a relationship that would forever mark the hearts of the Argentine people. It was the first story of Víctor Hugo in Argentina, on the microphones of Radio El Mundo. From the beginning, the Maradona-Morales pairing had a special color full of poetry, creativity, genius and soccer prowess. At 19 minutes, Maradona kicked a penalty with complete confidence. “He dropped it like a tear,” launched the journalist, reconstructing the images of the goal on the radio.

“That day there was a strong contradiction between my fear, my fear, my anguish, my desire to take a plane to Montevideo, and the unquestionable ability that I must have to do what I do. The game started and my nerves went away”, Victor Hugo recounted years later. The journalist and host of AM750 recalled that he was scared by the fear of making a mistake with a player, “in furciar a word.” “But in general terms, I felt very good. Also, the first move I made was to describe Diego’s goal, where I came up with a sentence that, I realized, was good.”
