Senegal beat Algeria on penalties to win the African Nations Championship

The very special tournament that is the African Nations Championship was held in Algeria in recent weeks.

This continental competition is reserved for players playing in Africa, but is very followed and considered by the African public. This 7th edition took place in Algeria since January 13 and saw 17 teams compete for the trophy. Morocco was originally scheduled to play in the competition as well, but a diplomatic dispute between Morocco and Algeria prevented the Atlas Lions from traveling to Algerian territory.

Algeria honored their status as host country by having eliminated Côte d’Ivoire and crushed Niger en route to the final. Senegal had beaten Mauritania and Madagascar, who will beat Niger for the bronze. Algeria and Senegal faced each other this Saturday in Algiers and after 120 minutes without a goal, the Teranga Lions won on penalties.
