Once again the Royal Blues experienced a roller coaster ride of emotions. As Gerald Asamoah put it shortly after the 0-0 draw against VfL Wolfsburg, they were “proud of the way the team is marching”. From the beginning she fought passionately and united. In addition to the disappointment about the result, this time there was also acute anger about the team of referees.

After the events on Friday evening, coach Thomas Reis was upset, and Asamoah, Schalke’s head of the licensed player department, also expressed his displeasure. “We would have deserved the win, but a lot is going against us at the moment,” complained the ex-professional. On the one hand he meant the lack of luck and certain inadequacies of his own team, especially in attack. But after the 0-0 Asamoah clearly blamed external influences for the third zero in a row.

In added time, Simon Terodde would have run freely towards goalkeeper Koen Casteels if referee Benjamin Brand hadn’t blown the whistle for Schalke’s advantage. “I just don’t get it,” Asamoah said. And: In the case of a penalty scene in favor of Wolfsburg, “they look, we don’t look,” Asamoah wondered, looking at the handball in the penalty area by VfL defender Sebastiaan Bornauw in the middle of the first half.

Asamoah revealed that he had already actively sought to talk to the referee and his team during the break, and the focus of criticism was the unchecked hand scene. “I was with them and pointed it out to them. They said they were sorry. But we can’t buy anything for that.”

The Royal Blues must continue to try to bring the positive feelings to the fore, but at the same time they must not close their eyes to their offensive problems, Asamoah emphasizes: “The development of the last three games has been positive, but of course we still have to score a goal. We have to keep going, someday it will work out.”

The ex-professional says: “We have to gain self-confidence and security in training.” Dau, Reis and his team now have a lot of time, a long week of training awaits Schalke. Their next game will not be played at Union Berlin until Sunday.
