A resourceful member of online auction platform eBay is about to make a small fortune selling sand from the beach where quarterback Tom Brady announced his retirement from the NFL.
Last Wednesday, the 45-year-old athlete posted a video in which he explained that he was ending his brilliant 23-season career. He was set up on a beach in Florida to make this big announcement.
An opportunist recognized the place and went there to collect sand.
“Bet on one of two samples taken from the exact location of Tom Brady’s retirement on February 1, 2023,” he wrote on the eBay page.
As of Monday, the highest bid was US$99,900 and there had been 119 bids.
The product went up for auction Thursday and the first asking price was US$677, in honor of the total number of touchdowns Brady scored during his career. The seller says they collected the sand hours after the quarterback video was released and video evidence is available upon request.
The auction for this Mason jar containing eight ounces of sand will end Sunday afternoon, Super Bowl day.
