Paris Saint-Germain trainer Christophe Galtier has no problem with the fact that technical advisor Luis Campos descended from the stands during the home game against Lille on Sunday to assist him. After the driver’s striking action, PSG turned the Ligue 1 game around completely.
Coincidence or not, but thanks to hits from Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi, who hit a goal from a free kick, the national champion still won: 4-3.
Galtier has no problem with the remarkable action of his technical advisor, who even gave directions. “Luis is passionate, I don’t see this as interference. He is very driven and, like everyone else with us, has great ambitions,” the coach reported at the press conference. “Luis showed his enormous commitment.”
Campos already reported in the dressing room of PSG at halftime of the duel with AS Monaco last week, which then lost 3-1. “That was not a problem for me, because he does not interfere with the technical and tactical part.”
Cruijff did the same as Campos in 1980
Campos’ action was reminiscent of a historic Eredivisie moment: during Ajax-FC Twente in 1980, Ajax coach Leo Beenhakker received unsolicited help from Johan Cruijff, who had descended from the stands, who acted as a technical advisor at the time. With Cruijff gesticulating along the line, Ajax fought back from a 1-3 deficit: 5-3.
With the spectacular victory over Lille, PSG ended a bad series. The Parisians had lost their last three official matches. In the eighth finals of the Champions League, the star formation lost 0-1 to Bayern Munich a week ago. The return is in southern Germany in just over two weeks.
