Premier League: Thiago Silva, 38, extends his contract with Chelsea for one year

And another year! Thiago Silva is definitely stainless. The 38-year-old Brazilian defender will play his 22nd pro season next year. As expected in recent hours, he officially extended his contract with the Chelsea club this Saturday for another year until June 2024.

This news has certainly delighted the supporters of the London club, who will be able to count on the experience and leadership of O Monstro for another year. Arrived at the Blues in 2020 after eight years spent at PSG, the defender auriverde quickly integrated into the rough Premier League (PL). He even found his former coach at PSG Thomas Tuchel after 6 months before winning the Champions League in May 2021 (1-0 victory in the final at the expense of Manchester City).

This season, he is still an indisputable starter (19 out of 22 PL games and 5 out of 6 in the Champions League) in a less dashing London team than in recent seasons (9th in the league). This extension of the Brazilian’s contract is also good news for Benoit Badiashile, who arrived during the winter transfer window from Monaco, who will be able to continue learning alongside the 38-year-old player. The two will form the central hinge of the Blues this Saturday afternoon at West Ham during the 22nd day of the Premier League. The other tricolor central defender Wesley Fofana is still unavailable after a knee injury in December. His return is scheduled for mid-February.
