A new animated series from one of the most popular manga by Naoki Urasawa and Takashi Nagasaki, Pluto, arrives on Netflix. Praised by many as a masterpiece, the manga Pluto is taken from the episode “The greatest robot in the world” of Osamu Tezuka’s 1964 series Astro Boy and is conceived by Naoki Urasawa (20th Century Boys, Yawara! – Jenny the judo girl, Master Keaton) in collaboration with the expert co-creator Takashi Nagasaki.

What is Pluto talking about

The globally acclaimed manga has won numerous awards, including the Osamu Tezuka Cultural Award. The 2015 stage adaptation of Pluto returned by popular demand in 2018 with a tour of Japan and Europe.

“I applaud the courage of all those who have accepted the challenge of making an anime based on Pluto – ha said the author Naoki Urasawa -. I am excited about the birth of this new series which I trust will go straight to the heart of the public. I hope Osamu Tezuka’s message reaches the world, now more than ever.”

Co-author Takashi Nagasaki added, “Pluto inherits Tezuka’s philosophy and doesn’t just deliver an anti-war message. It also reminds us that suffering is present on both sides of a conflict but that the only possible response is still peace”.
