Pau Gasol, the golfer that almost nobody talked about

Much has been said in recent weeks about the participation of Gareth Bale in the prestigious AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am (California, USA). The former Welsh player for Real Madrid has already participated in several tournaments of this Pro-Am format —games involving two professionals and two amateurs—, but it was the first time he had done so in one of the PGA Tour.

Bale hung up his boots as a footballer on January 9, playing for Los Angeles FC, and now it seems that he will be able to focus on golf, another of the great passions of his life. At Pebble Beach, where he has partnered with American professional golfer Joseph Bramletthas finished among the 16 best records after having dropped positions in the table.

However, there are other sports stars who have also participated in this Pebble Beach Pro-Am and who have been talked about much less. They have even finished above Gareth Bale in the standings. It’s about the American football player Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) and the Spanish basketball player Pau Gasolretired from the courts since October 2021.

The man from Sant Boi, who has played for the Los Angeles Lakers, Memphis Grizzlies, Chicago Bulls and San Antonio Spurs, among other NBA teams, has finished the Pebble Beach tournament in the top ten as a couple with the professional Mark Hubbard.

Pau has surprised everyone with his good work with the clubs despite the fact that he has only been playing golf for a few months. His evolution is very positive and on several holes it was his ball that scored compared to Hubbard’s.

This weekend he made a simply spectacular shot: with a tree just a couple of meters away, Gasol made an impact worthy of any professional player who finished just a few meters from the hole. Pau was unforgiving and safely holed the subsequent putt to continue his sensational performance.

The final victory in this AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am has been for Ben Silverman and NFL player Aaron Rodgers (-25), with three strokes behind Peter Malnati and businessman Don Colleran.
