Austria’s Davis Cup team hosts Portugal in mid-September in a fight for a place in the 2024 qualifying round.
The red-white-red team set as number 8 will play on 15./16. or 16./17. September and has home rights like a year ago in the home win over Pakistan. Captain Jürgen Melzer’s team lost 3-1 to Croatia in Rijeka last weekend.
The ÖTV team has an excellent record against Portugal: all four encounters with the Iberians were won, three times 4-1 and one time 5-0. Most recently, Dominic Thiem and Co. prevailed 4-1 in Guimaraes in 2016. Therefore, Austria now also has home rights.
