The teams are the first two placed in the French Championship. Paris Saint-Germain is the leader, with 54 points, and has not lost for three rounds, after a stumble against Rennes. In the last stages of the French Cup, the Parisians beat Châteauroux, 3-1, and Pays de Cassel, 7-0.
Olympique de Marseille occupies second place in Ligue 1. With 46 points, the team lost 3-1 against Nice in the last round and let PSG open up more distance, which is now eight points. In the first stages of the French Cup, the hosts defeated Hyères Football Club, by 2-0, and Rennes, by 1-0.
This season, Olympique de Marseille and Paris Saint-Germain faced each other only once, in the first round of the French Championship. In the match played at the Parc des Princes, the Parisians won 1-0, with a goal by Neymar.
