Nick Kyrgios acquitted of charges brought by his ex-girlfriend.

The Australian tennis player appeared in court in Canberra on crutches after the knee operation which forced him to miss the entire Australian tour.

And he faced the trial in which he was accused of violence against his ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari. In January 2021, Nick had indeed been denounced by the young girl after an argument which had taken place in front of the apartment of Kingston.

More precisely, the Australian tennis player had pushed his ex which did not allow her to close the car door and leave: the young girl, who fell to the ground, suffered minor physical consequences, including shoulder pain and a scrape on her knee.

The stormy relationship between the two then continued for a year before ending and Passari filed a formal complaint for the incident. Kyrgios pleaded guilty to shoving his ex-girlfriend to the ground but was acquitted by Judge Beth Campell. Defense attorney Michael Kukulies-Smith brought evidence provided by psychologist Sam Borenstein to the judge’s attention on the serious depressive and anxiety disorders from which the tennis player suffered at the time of the events.

In fact, the judge ruled opting to dismiss the case with the aforementioned statement: “The defendant acted in the heat of the moment, like a young man trying to extricate himself from a situation of high emotional intensity”.

Shortly after, Kyrgios’ message appeared on Instagram, obviously also emphasizing his displeasure with the situation: “I reacted to a difficult situation in a way that I deeply regret.

I know I did something wrong and I apologize for the pain I caused. Mental health is a difficult thing. Life can seem overwhelming. But I figured it out by getting help, working on myself made me feel better and be a better person.”
