The Philadelphia Eagles are back in the Super Bowl for the first time since winning the championship following the 2017 season. Just like five years ago, Philadelphia has lost just three games in the regular season. However, the two editions are very different.

There are only seven players left from the Super Bowl LII champion team who are still with the Eagles. Among them, we find Lane Johnson who is considered to be one of the best blockers in the NFL. According to Johnson there is no doubt that the identity on offense is very different.

“We’re going for a much more mobile quarterback this year, without taking anything away from Nick Foles,” Johnson said. The team is completely different from five years ago. Expectations are higher this year. We have a lot of talent. We had to prove it every week and go one game at a time. »

Veteran tackle Fletcher Cox was an important part of Philadelphia’s defense five years ago. The Eagles defensive unit is possibly more formidable this year. Philadelphia has had no less than 70 sacks in the season. This is the third highest total in NFL history. “The defensive units are also very different. In 2017, we were pressing four. We are now pressing five. It makes quite a difference. »

One thing that hasn’t changed, however, is that Philadelphia is once again betting on one of the NFL’s best running offenses. In 2017, the Eagles had the running back trio of Jay Ajayi, LeGarrette Blount and Corey Clement.

The current edition features the legs of quarterback Jalen Hurts in addition to running backs Miles Sanders, Kenneth Gainwell and Boston Scott. According to former Giants star Michael Strahan, the Chiefs’ priority will have to be to slow Hurts down to have a chance of winning.

“Hurts can run and can also let his teammates run. He’s as dominant as a running back, Strahan said. It causes big problems for the opposing defense. »

One of the dark heroes of the Eagles’ Super Bowl appearance is general manager Howie Roseman. Roseman was able to assemble a second dominant Eagles roster in five years with a new starting quarterback as well as a new head coach. We will now see if the current edition of the Eagles will be able to lift the precious trophy at arm’s length on Sunday.
