Next Gen Cup: Dinamo Sassari wins a useless victory against Pallacanestro Trieste

In the first match on Sunday, Banco di Sardegna Sassari beat Pallacanestro Trieste in the final seconds, but the difference in baskets condemned the Sardinians to elimination. Despite the importance of the stakes, the two teams do not start contracted and offer a show right away: for the Sardinians it is Barou (8 points, 14 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 blocks), Pisano (28 points and 5 rebounds) and Basoli to go to the scoresheet, while Trieste tries to get even with Obljubech (11 points) and Ius (34 points and 7 rebounds); however, Sassari is more attentive in defense and more cynical in attack, so a triple from the new entrant E. Casu (11 points) and Pisano’s free throws gave the islanders the first maximum advantage (17-8). The blue-and-whites continue to grind the game who find a 5-0 run interspersed with a three-point game by Ius; then a shot from 6.75 meters by E.Casu brings Dinamo up +14. Two baskets with the clock stopped by Camporeale close the first ten minutes on 25-13.

The Giuliani begin the second period with a completely different verve, so dragged by the usual Ius and a triple from Eva (8 points, 8 steals, 7 assists and 5 rebounds) they build a 0-8 run which puts them back on track for the comeback. Trieste’s fury shows no signs of diminishing and still led by Eva, the team adds five points to its partial for overtaking (25-26); However, Sassari did not leave the game and relied on Pisano and Piredda’s impromptu basket to equalize, before a three-point play by Desobgo (10 points) put Trieste back ahead 4′ from the interval. The Sardinians are struggling to find the right rhythm, this allows the Desobgo-Ius duo to record yet another run of 2-9 for Giulia’s maximum advantage (33-41); at the end of the first half Dore (19 points) connects with a triple and Pisano with a shot from mid-range, but the last word is from Pallacanestro Trieste who scores two useful points to bring the teams to rest at 39-45.

In the second half after a couple of minutes in which Sassari and Trieste appeared staid, Ius moves the retina with four stitches in a row; on the other hand, however, a triple by E.Casu and a three-point play by Palazzi (5 points and 10 rebounds) put the islanders back on track, but again a shot from 6.75 meters by Obljubech and a basket by Ius bring the Giuliani back to +12 (45-57). With the obligatory exit of Ius for a technical foul, Pallacanestro Trieste must give Rolli (13 points) the keys to the game; Dinamo, thanks to Pisano and Dore, took advantage of it to make the margin less wide but it was Desobgo’s magic that sent the comeback attempt back to the sender. In the last seconds Dore hits the scoresheet again from behind the arc, followed by two points with the clock stopped for Pisano for the 57-65 in the half hour of play.

Sassari opens the final period with great enthusiasm scoring again with Pisano and with E.Casu’s free throws. Trieste responds blow for blow with Desobgo and with a triple from Rolli; however Piredda on the counterattack, a bomb from Pisano and Barou’s supports to the basket sign the 9-0 run which brings the Sardinians into a draw (70-70). The return to the field of Ius spurs the Giuliani not to lose control of the game, although the Dore-Barou duo manages to bring the Sassari back ahead by two points for a few moments. In the last minute of the game everything happens: Pisano with two free throws puts Dinamo Sassari ahead in the score, Obljubech scores with a three-point play for the counter pass, then Dore scores +1 in penetration and again Obljubech with the clock stopped finds the equalizer 14” from the end (82-82). A naive foul by Dovera sends Dore to the line: the number 11 only puts one of the two on the scoresheet, but that is enough for the islanders to win 83-82.
