The NBA has apparently come up with a curious trick so that the player who will be chosen last in the All-Star Draft next Sunday does not have to feel bad: the reservists should apparently be chosen before the starters.
That betrayed TNT-Host Ernie Johnson on the show “Inside the NBA”. This is apparently to prevent a player from carrying the stigma of being drafted last. Because the affected player can “console” himself with the fact that he is still a starter in the All-Star Game.
In contrast to previous years, the All-Star Draft does not take place weeks before the actual All-Star Game in Salt Lake City. Instead, the league has considered an innovation. The two team captains, LeBron James and Giannis Antetokounmpo, will only announce their teams an hour and a half before tip-off of the actual game on Monday night (live from 2 a.m. on DAZN) choose.
The All-Star Draft will be performed live on a stage at Vivint Arena, home of the Utah Jazz that is hosting the All-Star Game. According to a league spokesman, every player participating in the event will be in the arena during the draft and thus become part of the show.
In 2018, the NBA changed the All-Star Game format from the traditional Eastern vs. Western Conference duel to a format with two team captains, each creating their own team. The two players who received the most fan votes in the All-Star Voring in their conference serve as team captains. LeBron is in for the sixth time as captain and his teams are 5-0 in the All-Star Game. It is Antetokounmpo’s third time as All-Star captain.
