(Reuters) – LeBron James of the Lakers set a new all-time scoring record in his hometown of Los Angeles on Thursday as the National Basketball Association (NBA) played games across the country.

LeBron, who was closing in on former Lakers Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387 points, set a new record in the third quarter against the Thunder. He ended up scoring 38 points, taking his total to 38,390.

Teammate Rui Hachimura had 14 points and six rebounds. They lost the match 130-133.

Yuta Watanabe’s Nets lost to the Suns 112-116. Watanabe is off the bench.

The Knicks beat the Magic 102-98, the Pelicans beat the Hawks 116-107 and the Grizzlies beat the Bulls 104-89.
