Marselino Ferdinan Absent at the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup

Jakarta

Marselino Ferdinan is certain to be absent from defending the Indonesian national team at the 2023 U-20 Asian Cup. Because he has to defend KMSK Deinze until the end of the season.

Indonesia is scheduled to depart for Uzbekistan on February 24. Garuda Muda entered Group A with Uzbekistan, Iraq and Syria. The first opponent will be Iraq on March 1.

One mainstay player is confirmed absent, namely Marselino. The former Persebaya Surabaya player was not released by Deinze, who is currently playing in Division Two of the Belgian League which just finished on May 13.

“Marselino will not go to Uzbekistan. So on April 8, as soon as Deinze plays, on April 9 (Marselino) will only join the national team until the 2023 U-20 World Cup is over,” said Indonesian National Team Coach Shin Tae-yong in a statement, Tuesday (21/2/2023).

Marselino is not the only mainstay player who will miss the U-20 Asian Cup, although he doesn’t want to detail the names.

“For the squad, we will lack five to six players until now. And we will compete without them,” said Shin.

“But in the Under-20 World Cup they will join the national team and I am optimistic that we can get better. So I ask for support for the team.”
