Liverpool owner puts a stop to club sale

Liverpool’s main owner John Henry has no plans to sell the English club outright.

“Are we going to stay in England forever? No. Are we selling Liverpool? No. Are we talking to investors about Liverpool? Yes. Will something happen there? I think so, but it won’t be a sale,” said the American in an interview quoted in the Boston Sports Journal.

In November it was announced that the US Fenway Sports Group (FSG), as the current owner of the Premier League club, is preparing a full sales prospectus for potential buyers.

The group, which also owns the Boston Red Sox baseball team, has “frequently received expressions of interest from third parties who wish to become shareholders in Liverpool,” the FSG said in a statement.

Liverpool’s archrival Manchester United recently received offers for a takeover. As it became known, an offer came in from Qatar, and another came from British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS group. United is currently owned by the US Glazer family.
