Nothing PSG! Nothing Inter Miami! Is Lionel Messi’s (35) future already clear?

His good buddy and former national team colleague Sergio Agüero (34) has now revealed to “UOL Esporte” that the Argentine superstar should consider a change. Accordingly, Messi’s youth club Newell’s Old Boys is under discussion.

Agüero’s last club before retiring was FC Barcelona (five games, one goal)

Agüero: “He’s seriously considering the possibility of playing for Newell’s.”

Already in June, Messi will wear the Argentine club’s shirt. Not (yet) in the league, but in the farewell game of ex-Liverpool star Maxi Rodriguez.

But Rodriguez himself puts the brakes on the euphoria: “Kun is Kun. He just can’t be calm. We will see. It is difficult to talk about it, because then an avalanche of rumors immediately arises. Let’s wait and see what happens.”

The Argentines want to use the game as a testing ground for Messi’s return. They aim to convince him of the setting, the stadium and the whole atmosphere at the club. In addition, Newell’s current coach is Gabriel Heinze (44). He and the PSG star are good friends.

Messi’s current contract situation

Messi’s contract at Paris Saint-Germain expires at the end of June. According to French media reports, the Parisians absolutely want to extend him. Messi, on the other hand, is said to be skeptical about the matter.

Allegedly, his family wants to leave Paris and would prefer a move to the MLS to Inter Miami. The club owned by David Beckham (47) was courting him even before the PSG change.

Rumors about a move home are nothing new either. In April last year, Ignacio Astore (62), club boss of the Old Boys, said in an interview with TyC Sports: “It would be a double pleasure for me as President of Newell’s to get a player with these skills.”

Messi played there for five years before moving to Barcelona in 2000. He has been on the lawn for the Parisians since 2021. He has 16 goals and 14 assists in 27 games this season.
