Latvia announces boycott of Russia launch

Latvia will not allow athletes to compete at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris if Russia and Belarus participate and the war in Ukraine continues.

“If we had to make the decision now, we would not take part in such competitions,” says a spokesman for the Latvian Olympic Committee. The games would only take place in a year and a half. We’ll see what happens in Ukraine by then.

The International Olympic Committee had indicated that Russian and Belarusian athletes could start with a neutral status. This allows them to participate in the qualifying competitions.
