Jeff Bezos retained an investment firm to examine the possibility of an offer for the Washington Commanders, according to a report from The Washington Post.
The newspaper reported that Jeff Bezos hired the investment firm Allen & Company, the same company that made the sale of the Denver Broncos last year and the Carolina Panthers in 2018.
Jeff Bezos, owner of Posthas not yet submitted an offer for the Commanders, but this latest move indicates a greater degree of interest in possibly making one. Others familiar with the process have anticipated that he will be involved at some point. Due to his net worth of $119 billion, making him the third richest person in the world.
The only known bidder to date is Josh Harris, who visited the facilities Washington last month, according to multiple sources. Harris, who grew up in the Washington area, owns the Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Devils and is a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
At least one other group, and possibly two, have toured the facilities of the commanders.
In November, the owner Dan Snyder and his wife, Tanya, announced that they had hired Bank of America Securities about possible transactions involving the team. They have not said if that means selling all or part of the team. Multiple sources have said that they anticipate a full sale of the franchise.
