Iván Nova will continue with the Chosen One

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Leones del Escogido reported this Thursday that they reached an agreement with Iván Nova so that the veteran pitcher remains within the red franchise of the capital.

Nova, selected by the Lions in the 12th round of the 2007 Lidom Draft, debuted with the long-haired in the 2009-10 tournament and since then has accumulated a 4-2 record, 2.62 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 50 strikeouts in 75.2 episodes over three seasons.

Last tournament he started the Opening Day game for El Escogido, posted a 3.76 earned run percentage, 1.22 WHIP and in 26.1 innings he struck out 20 rivals.

For excelling in defense, the San Cristóbal native was distinguished with the Gold Glove award in the 2021-22 campaign, at the “Los Dominicanos Primero de Cuqui Córdova” award ceremony.

In addition to the Lions, Nova has pitched 11 seasons in the Major Leagues, seven of them with the New York Yankees, and one with the South Korean Baseball Organization.

With Nova there are now five free agents of the Chosen One who have renewed their contract with the organization. Last week the club announced that it retained pitchers Enny Romero and Rhiner Cruz, first baseman Aderlin Rodríguez and outfielder Jimmy Paredes. Each of them will maintain their relationship with the club for at least two more years.

On the other hand, El Escogido revealed that he released pitchers Sandro Cabrera, Franklin Parra, Félix Paulino, Francys Peguero, Fernando Pérez and Williams Ramírez. Also infielders Stephen Alemais, Yeison Coca and Miguel Gómez, as well as outfielders Ismael Alcántara and Gabriel Guerrero.

The 11 released players were able to sign with any other organization of the Creole autumn-winter circuit.
