Lars Boom already worked with Lotte Kopecky at Liv Racing in 2021 and the Dutchman also made the switch to SD Worx last year.
The team leader saw that Kopecky’s entry into the road peloton was stylish last weekend. “If you keep working hard and living like a professional, you’ll get better and better,” he begins his explanation.
“Lotte now has more experience and is more determined to get to the point where she wants to be good.”
Kopecky seems to have blossomed completely. “Last year was her first year with this team and then you have to find your way.”
“This team is attuned to each other. They have fun with a lot of humor. Then the other things will come naturally.”
“If you can do great things with colleagues and friends, then that’s nice. Everything is always well discussed and discussed.”
The arrival of sprinter Lorena Wiebes also benefits Kopecky. Lars Boom: “Lotte may have doubted Wiebes a bit in the beginning, but not anymore.”
“It brings peace: with Lorena you always have someone behind. She has only made us stronger.”
Boom also knows that Kopecky is a few kilos lighter, but the sports director qualifies.
“Weight certainly plays a role, but you have to be careful and find the right balance. We succeeded. You have to control that and make sure it doesn’t get too light.”
Can Kopecky eventually develop into a climber who also scores in heavier rounds?
“I don’t want to think about that”, Boom is immediately clear. “Everyone is very happy with the Lotte we see now.”
“I don’t know if you have to want to ride better uphill on those long climbs. I don’t think she’s that type. I don’t see it happening.”
