Indoor world record 400 meters: Bol cracks Krachtochvilova – Sport

Dutch sprinter Femke Bol has beaten the 41-year-old world record in the 400m indoors. The 22-year-old won the Dutch Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn on Sunday in 49.26 seconds, beating Jarmila Kratochvilova’s previous record (49.59). The 72-year-old put it up on March 7, 1982.

“When I crossed the finish line, I knew I had the record, the fans were so loud,” said Bol: “I owe the record to the fans. I’ve never seen so many people here in the hall.” Bol undercut the 50-second mark for only the second time. Last weekend she stormed the finish line in Metz in 49.96 seconds.
