Charles Howell III LIV Golf Series

Charles Howell III returned a card of 63, eight strokes under par, to win the first tournament of the season of LIV Golf, Sunday in Mayakoba, on Playa del Carmen in Mexico. Howell’s previous victory on the pro circuit was five years ago at the RSM Classic, when he was still part of the PGA Tour.

With eight birdies for an aggregate score of 197 in three rounds, or 16 strokes under par, the American completed a bogey-free course on Sunday allowing him to edge his runner-up Peter Uilhein by four lengths. Howell, 43, who started the day one shot off the lead, birdied six on the first eight holes. He pockets the tidy sum of 4 million dollars on the twenty distributed individually.

Charles Howell’s victory coupled with Paul Casey’s 3rd place also offered his Crushers team, whose captain is Bryson DeChambeau, the first collective success of the season, ahead of the 4Aces and the Torque. These three teams each receive $5 million.

The next LIV Golf meeting will be held near Tucson, Arizona (USA), from March 17 to 19.
