Homophobic banners and incidents at La Mosson: heavy sanction for the MHSC and its supporters

The Etang de Thau stand at the La Mosson stadium will be closed for six games after the incidents during the reception of Nantes in mid-January, the LFP disciplinary committee decided on Wednesday February 8.

Six matches without the Ultras. This is the verdict of the LFP Disciplinary Committee. Meeting on Wednesday to decide on the incidents that had marred the meeting against Nantes (0-3) on January 15, the body hit hard.

While the stand occupied by the ultra groups of La Paillade had been closed since that date as a precaution, and when PSG came, the commission sanctioned the Hérault club with six matches. “Two of which by revocation of the suspended sentence”, specifies the LFP, as well as “10,000 euros fine”.

No reopening before April 23

The sanction “takes effect immediately”, adds the authority. The Brest reception on Sunday (3 p.m.) will therefore take place behind closed doors. Like the next four (Lens, Angers, Clermont and Toulouse). The Etang de Thau grandstand will only reopen on the weekend of April 23 during MHSC-Rennes.

This verdict follows the various incidents that marked the reception of FC Nantes on January 15. That day, Hérault supporters expressed their anger at the results with banners. These were then described as “homophobic” by associations for the defense of LGBT + rights and by the Minister of Sports, Amélie Oudéa-Castéra. Smoke bombs, as well as agricultural bombs, had also caused the interruption of the meeting.

Two suspension matches for Laurent Nicollin

Expelled on Sunday by Stéphanie Frappart half an hour into the game of the MHSC meeting in Strasbourg (2-0), Laurent Nicollin will not find his bench right away. Despite his apologies during the presentation of Michel Der Zakarian, the Hérault president was sanctioned with “two matches of suspension from the sidelines, from the referees’ locker room and from all official functions” by the LFP disciplinary committee.
