Most places in the Dutch national team are forgiven, but the place next to Frenkie de Jong in midfield has not yet been filled. Former international Ruud Gullit would go for Jerdy Schouten from Bologna.
Last weekend against Inter Milan (1-0 stunt win), Schouten was good for the assist on the winning goal by Ricardo Orsolini. “I think he is a really good football player. He is developing very well. It also says a lot that Bologna did not want to let him go,” says Gullit Rondoop Ziggo Sports. Feyenoord, among others, showed interest in the former Excelsior player in January.
‘Ideal next to Frenkie’
“I think he is the ideal player to play in midfield next to Frenkie de Jong. He always wants to play forward quickly, you saw that with that assist against Inter. He is also always calm on the ball. I assume that Ronald Koeman will select him.”
Jan van Halst gives Schouten another tip during a video call: “He should be a bit more fierce in the duels. I kind of miss that poison.” Schouten himself does not entirely agree. “I think it looks like there’s not a lot of poison in it, but if you look at the stats I don’t think I’m losing many duels.”
Eredivisie transfer?
Finally, Marco van Basten asks the game distributor whether he sees himself at an Eredivisie top club? “Yes, that would be something I would think about. The advantage of Dutch clubs is that they often play in the Champions League or Europa League and that is still a dream of mine.”
