In the semi-finals of Delray Beach, 25-year-old Fritz defeated another American athlete Mackenzie McDonald (ATP 56) 6-3, 7-6 (6), while 23-year-old Kecmanovic reached his third final on the ATP tour after a hard-fought victory (7:6 ( 8), 3:6, 6:2) over Moldovan Rada Albota (ATP 113).
In the fifth match between Fritz and Kecmanovic (the American had won the first three of the previous four), Fritz dominated the first and third sets, while Fritz missed three break points in the second set, including a match point loss in the tenth game. In game 11, Kecmanovic took advantage of Fritz’s sloppiness, breaking opponent’s serve and winning the set.
Fritz, who won the fifth out of ten ATP finals, will retain the seventh position in the world ranking, while Kecmanović, who lost for the second time in the finals, will move up to the 30th place.
