The round of 16 of the Europa League will be drawn on Friday (February 24th, 2023, 12 noon CET) – SC Freiburg is one of the seeded teams. Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin also qualified.
The eight games will be drawn from two pots. In pot 1 are the group winners from the group stage of the Europa League. These teams generally have home rights in the second leg. SC Freiburg is the only club from the Bundesliga to be in pot 1.

The unseeded teams in pot 2 are the winners of the games from the intermediate round, which involved the runners-up in the Europa League and the third-placed in the Champions League. Duels between teams from the same country only from the quarterfinals
Duels politically excluded by UEFA are not possible, which is why only one restriction will apply: teams from the same association are not allowed to meet in the round of 16. This is only possible from the quarter-finals.
The winner of the tournament will receive a starting right in the group stage of the Champions League of the 2023/24 season.
