There was a mass brawl on Sunday morning in front of a FC Schalke 04 clubhouse. Several hundred Schalke fans met there to take buses to the Bundesliga game at Union Berlin, the police said.

Suddenly, at least 100 violent people appeared, who probably came from the Rot-Weiss Essen and Borussia Dortmund fan scene. It is not yet clear which groups are involved, said a police spokesman. A baseball bat and other striking tools were used in the attack.

By the time police arrived, the attackers had already disappeared. A bus driver was among the injured. The police are now investigating breaches of the peace and dangerous bodily harm. The police spokesman said that the extent to which the attack had been planned is also being determined. However, it is unlikely that around 100 violent people would meet by chance in an industrial park on a Sunday morning.

FC Schalke 04 issued a statement on Sunday and “condemns all forms of violence, as stated in the mission statement, among other things, and wishes the injured a full recovery.”
