FC Bayern celebrate their first win after the World Cup break. The players breathe a sigh of relief after the success in Mainz and reaching the quarter-finals of the DFB Cup.

Dhe Bayern left no doubt. The round of 16 in the DFB Cup was decided after half an hour when Jamal Musiala scored 2-0 in Mainz. Especially in the first half it was a demonstration of power by Munich, who effortlessly moved into the quarter-finals after the 4-0 win. It was four goals and 90 minutes against the frustration of three games without a win in the Bundesliga, each of which ended 1-1.

“The joy is very, very great. Those are the nights you play football for. We know that in the last couple of games we’ve been below our potential and below our expectations. A win alone is not enough, we have to keep working hard now,” said Bayern’s Joshua Kimmich.

The midfielder was the driver in the center and was voted “man of the match” after the final whistle. Joao Cancelo, who played well on the right flank, shone next to him. “He has great quality, I think he was able to show that today. I’m assuming that we’ll still have a lot of fun with him,” Kimmich said of the Portuguese, who Bayern have loaned from Manchester City.

“I can hide the pressure from outside”

“I found the first half very, very good. This was a significant increase over the previous games. You could see today that the boys really wanted to play. We made a good step today,” said Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann. During the week he and his coaching team changed a few things in the analysis. Everything was openly addressed: “The players want to take responsibility. In the past few weeks I’ve gotten into the habit of not reading anything. I put the necessary pressure on myself, so I can ignore the pressure from outside.”
