“Everyone thinks they have a bigger cock than the other”

When the defeat against AS Monaco was sealed and teammates got into a tussle with the opponent, Lukas Hradecky launched an all-out attack. The Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper grumbles about the “new generation”. This would have no manners, no respect.
EThere was a need to speak – and not only because of the 2: 3 (0: 1) that Bayer Leverkusen conceded in the play-off first leg in the Europa League at home against AS Monaco. Lukas Hradecky, the Werkself goalkeeper, was not only bothered by the defeat afterwards. The 33-year-old keeper, known for clear words, was concerned with something completely different.
In front of the north stand, players and officials of the Bundesliga club had a tussle with players from AS Monaco. “We are highly motivated after what happened after the game. That’s childish, I don’t know what’s going on. No one can behave these days, there is no respect,” Hradecky complained about the “new generation”.
National coach sees dream goal from Wirtz
The Finn, once in a rage, added: “Everyone thinks they have a bigger cock than the other. These are all children, all just children. That’s unbelievable.” The annoyed goalkeeper didn’t allow any further questions – and angrily stomped away. In order to make it into the round of 16, you not only need an improvement in performance in the second leg next Thursday, but a win. “We’re hotter than ever – nothing has happened yet,” said Robert Andrich, the defensive midfielder.
A curious own goal by Hradecky (9th minute) initiated the defeat. He had frittered away a back pass from Tah in front of the line. When he was then tackled hard by Embolo, Hradecky pushed the ball into his own goal box. He protested, the VAR controlled, but the goal counted to 0:1.
Goals from Krepin Diatta (74′) and Axel Disasi (90′ + 2′) ultimately decided a fast-paced encounter – Moussa Diaby (48′) and Florian Wirtz (59′) with a dream solo had the game in front of the national coach’s eyes Hansi Flick shot in the meantime. Patrik Schick’s comeback gave courage for the second duel.
But now it’s time to work through the defeat, to analyze it. But they should get to the root of the problem in Leverkusen: When Bayer failed in the first round of the DFB Cup in the summer of 2022 at third division SV Elversberg (3: 4), the frighteningly poor performance resulted in a relentless reckoning – sender : Lukas Hradecky.
“We had a great preparation and think we are the best. And then we lose in Elversberg, and everything vanishes into thin air,” he rumbled at the time – and he followed up. “We are busy with everything else than playing football. With the referee, the spectators, the pitch – there was negative energy everywhere. That looked awful. You can’t do anything with so many goals against”, Hradecky complained and demanded: “Everyone has to look in the mirror. I’ve said that a thousand times, but apparently that’s not enough.”
