UnipolSai Fortitudo Bologna scores their first transfer market signing the pitcher Diego Gergolet, one of the most promising young players in Italian baseball. Grew up in the Staranzano Ducks, right-handed pitcher born in Monfalcone (Go) on June 22, 2006, 180 cm by 75 kg, one of the many talents of Italian baseball from the extreme north-east of the country, in particular from the “Bisiacaria” area, the south side of the province of Gorizia, in 2018 here is his first joy: he is champion of Italy under 12, beating Junior Rimini and T&A San Marino in the final four in Modena. Experiences also followed in the various national categories.
In 2022 he played the season in Serie A with Ronchi dei Legionari’s New Black Panthers. Playing seven times in relief, he finished his career with a 2.53 average ERA, 12 strikeouts in 10.2 restarts. At the same time he stood out in the under 18 championship and at the Tournament of the Regions, in the Friuli Venezia Giulia selection.
During the summer he then made his debut, at the age of 16, in the senior national team, during the Haarlem Baseball Week, playing a second half against the United States, a baptism of iron faced with courage by the boy, who landed 9 strikes out of 13 pitches played, for two hits allowed, one strikeout and one run earned. Unfortunately a subsequent injury prevented him from participating in the under 18 world championship in Florida in September, after having instead taken part in the European championship in Ostrava.
