Denmark secures EC semi-final with victory over Scots | BT Sport

Denmark is ready for the semi-finals at the European Badminton Championships for mixed teams after a victory over Scotland.

As expected, Denmark is ready for the semi-finals at the European Championships in badminton for mixed teams.

On Wednesday, Scotland was beaten in both nations’ second group match, and as England won over Ukraine at the same time, Danish promotion is secured.

However, the final group game against England will still be played.

Denmark has won the last four editions of the European Championship, which this time is held in French Aire-sur-la-Lys.

However, the Danes got off to a bad start in the match against the Scots. Line Christophersen thus lost her singles against Kirsty Gilmore, who is also seven places further up the world rankings than the Dane at number 18.

Christophersen had won the first set, but then the Scot turned the match on its head. Gilmore finished with a 14-21, 21-18, 21-12 victory.

Viktor Axelsen was superior in a different way. The world number seven smashed James Robertson in just 21 minutes by winning 21-8, 21-7.

Maiken Fruergaard and Sara Thygesen followed up by winning their women’s doubles. Julie Macpherson and Ciara Torrance were beaten in straight sets 21-15, 21-16.

That left Kim Astrup and Frederik Søgaard with the opportunity to secure the Danish victory, and they seized it. The Danish duo defeated Alexander Dunn and Christopher Grimley in two sets with 21-17, 21-12.

It ended up being a 4-1 victory in matches after Mathias Christiansen and Amalie Magelund beat Adam Hall and Julie Macpherson in their mixed doubles.
