Dear Jackie: the short stay of Jackie Robinson in Montreal told

The legendary Jackie Robinson marked the history of major baseball not only by his talent, but also by being the first black player to evolve within the circuit.

Through his courage on and off the field, he broke the barrier of segregation in professional baseball, and thus paved the way for thousands of young people who aspire to their greatest dreams.

After his move to the Negro American League in 1945 and before his arrival in major league baseball with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, Robinson played one season with the Montreal Royals in 1946.

It was the farm club of the New York team and few know that the fast second baseman played in Canada before becoming an MLB star.

Documentary

It is with this premise that the documentary “Dear Jackie” will be presented on CBC airwaves this Sunday, February 12. The performance is scheduled for 9 p.m.

This film by Henri Pardo is 1h30 long and is a cinematographic letter to Jackie Robinson through his passage in the Little Burgundy district of Montreal. This area will be considered the Harlem of the North.
