The Spanish tennis player Alejandro Davidovich overcame his debut in the ATP tournament in Montpellier (France) this Wednesday with the injury of his rival Ugo Humbert, while the also Spanish Roberto Bautista fell (6-3, 6-4) in his first match against the local Arthur Fils and Bernabé Zapata was eliminated in Córdoba (Argentina).

Davidovich stayed the premiere against a Humbert who suffered a nasty injury on the track, when he fell violently to the ground next to the side fence and severely hit his lower back. The Spaniard was quick to help his rival, who withdrew after losing the second set (1-6, 7-6 (2).

The player from Malaga, seeded fifth, found himself on the ropes at the start of the ATP 250 category gala event, which is played on hard courts. However, Davidovich pushed to command in the second set, although he had to sweat until the ‘tie-break’. In that tiebreaker, Humbert suffered the fall that forced him to withdraw.

Davidovich, who was coming off his second-round defeat at the Australian Open, will now face fellow local Quentin Halys in Montpellier. Meanwhile, in his debut in the second round, Bautista could not beat the tournament invitee Arthur Fils, number 163 in the world and 18 years old who won the first duel between the two.

The man from Castellón, also back in action from Australia, was surprised at the start of an exchange of ‘breaks’ from which his rival came out ahead. Fils, who had previously found a good game with the serve to win the first set, began the second by breaking the Spaniard, an income with which he sealed the victory.

In addition, Bernabé Zapata said goodbye to the tournament in Córdoba (Argentina), of the ATP 250 category and which is played on clay, when he fell (5-7, 6-4, 6-3) against the Chilean Tomás Barrios.
