‘Clement received an offer from Premier League’

Belgian trainers are rare in the major European competitions, but there are two in Ligue 1 these days. Will Still is very successful at Stade Reims, while Philippe Clement has been at the helm of AS Monaco since January 2022. He was just unable to lead the Principality club to the Champions League last season and currently parks them in third place in the standings.

Those achievements appear to be enough to put themselves in the spotlight of other clubs. De Telegraaf reports that Clement received an offer from the Premier League last week. He was approached by Leeds United to take over after the sacking of Jesse Marsch, but our compatriot will ultimately remain in Monaco.

Clement was by no means the only trainer approached by Leeds. Carlos Corberan (West Brom), Andoni Iraola (Rayo Vallecano) and Arne Slot (Feyenoord) also received no response. Alfred Schreuder, Clement’s successor at Club Brugge last season, was also a serious candidate. The Dutchman was even present during the match against Manchester United, but was eventually removed due to a difference in vision.

Meanwhile, Leeds has also taken a remarkable quest in its search for a coach. After all, it will be discontinued for the time being, because the club announced on Tuesday that it will continue with Michael Skubala until further notice. The U23 coach took over from Marsch ad interim and managed to convince in the two games against Man Utd. He guided the team at Old Trafford to a 2-2 draw, but last weekend they lost 0-2 in their own stadium.
