Chichén Itzá will have a new museum for works on the Mayan Train – El Sol de México

The Chichén Itzá Archaeological Zone will have a new museum site and will give access to a new section within its route, as part of the projects that accompany the construction of the Mayan trend.

The announcement was made by Diego Prieto, general director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History, during the morning conference of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, during a general report on the progress in the 239 kilometers of the Section 4 of the Mayan Trainwhich runs from Izamal, in Yucatana cancunin Quintana Roo.

These works, according to the official, have been achieved thanks to PProgram for the Improvement of Archaeological Zones (Promeza), which has allowed, have the executive project for the construction of the Visitor Attention Center (Catvi) and the said museum, whose construction has just begun.

About the new section, Prieto assured that he takes a 75 percent progress, so its opening is close. This is located in the space known as the Initial Series or Chichen Viejo.

In it there are a couple of platforms, of which one has been named “Maudslay”, in honor of british archaeologist that began explorations in that sector; the court of the Ball Game and the houses of the Moon and the Snails.

Work advances were also made in the archaeological zone of Ek Balam, close to the municipality of Valladolid, which will also have a Catvi, of which the executive project is about to be completed; In this place, the state analyzes are already in progress, conservation and maintenance tasks in different stucco reliefs.

As part of the results shown by the director of the INAHat the cutoff of February 6, 2023 of the progress of the Mayan trendJust over 4 thousand 126 real estate properties have been registered and preserved, such as foundations, albarradas and plazas, among other structures; recovered 570 personal property, mostly lithic and ceramic materials, such as figurines; and analyzed and more than 42 thousand sherds.

Likewise, it was said that 16 burials from the period were located prehispanic and they have been accounted for 110 natural traitsmainly caves y cenotesassociated with the landscape.
