The Castelveterese Carnival returns to Irpinia, one of the most awaited events in Campania, now in its 53rd edition.
The Castelveterese Carnival, which since 2020 belongs to the restricted list of Historical Carnivals protected by the Ministry of Culture, will take place on 25 and 26 February, featuring a very rich program which, in addition to the traditional parade of majestic allegorical floats and choreographic ballets, will demonstrate with shows and workshops for children and adults, concerts, djsets, excursions, guided tours and food stands.
Promoted and financed by the Municipality of Castelvetere together with the “Pro Loco”, the ETS “Il Sorriso di Daniel ODV”, the “La Ripa” Association, the Istituto Comprensivo A. Di Meo and the “Arcieri del Vecchio Castello” , with the active and essential collaboration of the “tank crews” of the “dance groups” and of those in the community who love and feel this event, the Castelvetere Carnival, is their own.

Saturday 25 February 2023 – Castelveterese Carnival – A country in disguise
Through the streets of the country
- 09:30 – walk and guided tour by the association la ripa
- 11:00 – Allegorical floats in Piazza Monumento;
- 11:00 – the children’s carnival organized by the Istituto comprensivo di meo
- 12:00 – Opening of Food and Wine Stands and CRT RADIO entertainment;
- 2.30 pm – Performance by the Folk Group I tarantolati (Volturara youth forum)
- 16:00 – Beginning of parade of dance groups and allegorical floats;
- 19:00 – Bakkano sounds in concert – popular music and pizzica.
- 21:00 – Dj set Antonio Meriano – DOTO DJ
Sunday 26 February 2023 – Castelveterese Carnival – A country in disguise. Dead Carnival
Through the streets of the country
- 09:30 – walk and guided tour by the association la ripa
- 11.00 am Allegorical floats in Piazza Monumento
- 11:30 am – Departure of the Research Train which collects all diversities and disabilities by the Ets the smile of Daniel ODV;
- 12:00 – Performance by the Folk Group la Quadriglia (pro loco Taurano)
- 12:00 – Opening of Food and Wine Stands and CRT RADIO entertainment;
- 2.30 pm – Start of parade of dance groups and allegorical floats –
- 6.00 pm – Celebration of the Dead Carnival and reading of the Testament;
- 18:30 – Lottery drawing.;
- 7.00 pm – Dj set Antonio Meriano – DOTO DJ
During the days of Carnival it will be possible to attend the archery demonstrations by the “Arcieri del Vecchio Castello”. The Carnival Museum, located in Piazza Municipio, will be open throughout the day during the four days of the Carnival. From 9:30 to 13:00 there will be guided tours by the La Ripa Association. The Castelveterese Carnival is a festival rich in tradition, skill and dedication that dates back to 1683 and found expression in the artisan rivalries of the two agglomerations of the Castle and the Plain which, after the Second World War, took the name of Piazza – the historic center of the town – and via Rome. Even today, as if by magic, that same goliardic spirit and the same desire to tell the world through satire is revived. Castelvetere, already for months before the event, is transformed into a laboratory of ideas and papier-mâché and is ready to make the carnival party explode.
