Carreño says goodbye to Rotterdam and Zapata advances in Buenos Aires

The Spanish tennis player Pablo Carreño said goodbye in his debut at the tournament in Rotterdam (Netherlands), in the ATP 500 category and played on indoor hard courts, after losing on Monday to Frenchman Richard Gasquet (2-6, 7-6(2 ), 6-2), while in Buenos Aires, in the 250 category and played on red clay, Bernabé Zapata took the national duel against Pedro Martínez (6-1, 3-6, 6-4).

In the Dutch event, the Asturian, current number 16 in the world, opened the game with a break that allowed him to maintain the advantage in the first round, in which he still signed another ‘break’ in the seventh game. Already in the second, he broke the service of his opponent in the fifth game to put the victory on track.

However, the Frenchman, number 45 in the ATP ranking and fourth active tennis player with the most individual ATP Tour titles on indoor courts (7), pulled his claws to return the break in the eighth game and force the ‘tie-break’, where managed to equalize the contest. Carreño was no longer able to react to the blow and saw Gasquet lead 4-0 in the third and final set. The Frenchman, at his first chance and with a scoreless game, closed the game after two hours and 10 minutes of fighting.

For its part, in the Buenos Aires tournament, the match between the Valencian tennis players Bernabé Zapata and Pedro Martínez opted for the former in three sleeves 6-1, 3-6 and 6-4 and after two and a half hours .

Zapata started very solid and took a first set that, despite the score, took more than 40 minutes, but Martínez knew how to force the third after winning a second that recorded up to seven ‘breaks’ and even broke ahead on two occasions in the third, but his compatriot finally got the ticket for the second round after another set with seven breaks to meet the Argentine Diego Schwartzmann, fourth favorite.
