Before playing the friendly match of the Colombia selection against the United States, Carlos Antonio Velez He criticized Néstor Lorenzo for having requested or authorized this senior team match to be held, taking into account that it was not a Fifa date and the main players would not be there. In the aforementioned friendly, which ended 0-0, without many emotions and with many questions about the choice of players, was attended by 4 players from the blue team led by Alberto Gamero. Álvaro Montero played the first half, Andrés Llinás played the entire game, Daniel Ruiz entered at minute 68 and Daniel Cataño did not see any action on the field.

Although other FPC players were also summoned, Vélez gave importance to the call of the ‘ambassador’ players, especially since these aforementioned footballers are regular starters with Gamero and the BetPlay 1-2023 League began without them. And despite the fact that the same journalist has said that he is not a fan or has ties to ‘Millos’, his protest was as strong as that of any loyal fan.

Carlos Antonio Vélez accuses Néstor Lorenzo of having something against Millonarios:

In the program ‘Planeta Fútbol’, on Tuesday, January 31, Carlos Antonio had several mentions of what happened with the 4 Millionaires players, specifically on the Cataño case. In addition, he recalled when the same ‘tricolor’ coach took Montero and Llinás to the friendlies against Guatemala and Mexico, while the blues were going to play the first leg of the 2020 BetPlay Cup against Junior:

“Do you know what Néstor Lorenzo has against Millionaires? He took 2 players when Millonarios was playing a final. And now he takes 3, he punishes 1, he puts ‘a little pout’ on the other and he doesn’t put it on the other. Why did he take Cataño? Why did he take Cataño? He didn’t use it for a single minute, leave it here.”

The controversial journalist from Manizale recognized that this “chimbo party” It can give so that some players can serve for official competitions and join them with the main team. But he emphasized the priority that the blues had to start building their team for 2023:

“When he is trying to assemble the team, they take away the players. Well, take them off, but put them to play. But taking them out to accumulate miles, I found it terribly offensive, particularly with Millonarios, because he is doing it repeatedly with Millonarios and I don’t know what the issue is.

Then he criticized the presence of Frank Fabra, whom he has singled out for his weight, for playing for Boca Juniors and for being from the previous generation of players. In this specific case, he said that it was better to put Junior Hernández, Deportes Tolima winger, who was called up and did not play against the United States either: “If he goes, he’s going to give Fabra the whole game and he’s going to put Falcao there, well, don’t take him and don’t harm the teams”.

According to Vélez, without giving specific names, there are directors of Colombian clubs upset by this situation and, supposedly, they commented on it:

“Leaders, very important in Colombian soccer, told me that you have to ‘stop balls’ about this… Does it make sense to take that number of players to a game against the United States, from teams B and C? Does it make sense to dismantle soccer teams so as not to put them up?

And later, in his opinion column, called ‘Palabras Mayores’, he again charged Lorenzo, with the same arguments:

“I am absolutely sure that there were some unacceptable things. What will Lorenzo have against Millonarios? One begins to get ‘pissed off’, to suspect and to feel that ‘whiff’ Lorenzo… He himself was the one who in the Millonarios por Copa final, against Junior, took a couple of Millonarios players and did not return them, when they were perfectly could have returned after the first game. Because ‘discipline had to be maintained’. A ‘count’…”

At that point, he emphasized what happened for the Cup final of the previous year and mentioned Junior Hernández and Daniel Cataño again:

“Millionaires had to spend a fortune on a private plane, to bring them… Now he calls Cataño and he doesn’t put it for a single minute, because he didn’t put it. He has 20 players, for a game in which there are 6 changes, that is, 17 who could play. And he leaves out, without a minute, Nicolás Hernández, come and go Andrés Reyes, come and go. But he leaves out Junior Hernández and Daniel Cataño. That he was on the rise, playing well with Millionaires ”.

To end the topic, for now, Carlos Antonio Vélez made it clear that there would be some interest from businessmen, close to Néstor Lorenzo, to affect Millionaires from the Colombian team: “It is a lack of respect for the players and for the teams… Many times, behind the coaches, there are businessmen and people interested in favoring… and harming… More, when the coach is permeable to the participation of close businessmen ”.
