Bryant’s jersey was auctioned for almost six million dollars, only Jordan’s cost more

The jersey of the tragically deceased basketball star Kobe Bryant from the 2007/08 season, in which the former leader of the Los Angeles Lakers won his only award for the NBA’s most valuable player, was auctioned for 5.8 million dollars (over 127 million crowns). Bryant played 25 games in this jersey, according to Sotheby’s auction house.

It is the second highest amount ever sold at auction for a basketball jersey. The record is held by Michael Jordan’s Chicago jersey from the opening Finals game in 1998, which was auctioned for ten million dollars last September.

Bryant played twenty seasons in the NBA and played only for the Lakers, with whom he won the competition five times. In 2020, the two-time Olympic champion and Hall of Famer died in a helicopter accident at the age of 41. His thirteen-year-old daughter and seven other people also lost their lives.
