Boxing: 1 silver and 3 bronzes for Italy in Bulgaria – Sport

(ANSA) – STRANDJA, FEBRUARY 26 – The balance of the boxers of the Italian national team competing in the 74th edition of the ‘Strandja Boxing Tournament’ in Bulgaria is one silver and three bronzes. Some boxers from Belarus also took part in this competition, but as ‘neutral athletes’ of the European confederation, contrary to what happened on the occasion of the ‘Golden Belts’ in Marrakech, where Russia was present with anthem and flag and won 12 medals.

As for Italy, which for now does not seem willing to boycott the next World Championships as 9 other countries will do, including the USA, due to the presence of the Russians, silver was obtained in the 86 kg category by Calabrian Vincenzo Lizzi.

Today he was unable to enter the ring for the final, due to an injury sustained during the semifinal victory against the Polish Niedzwechi. Thus the Uzbek Abullaev was proclaimed the winner of the tournament due to Lizzi’s forfeit.

The three bronze medals instead came one from the men’s sector and two from the girls, with Federico Serra in the 54 kg, Rebecca Nicoli in the 60 kg and Angela Carini in the 66 kg. (HANDLE).
