The Boston Celtics have officially promoted Joe Mazzulla from interim coach to head coach. The 34-year-old also extended his contract with the NBA record champion. The details of his new contract are not known.

“Joe is an extremely talented coach. He proved that,” Celtics President Brad Stevens said in a statement Thursday. “He has a unique ability to align those around him with a goal. The Celtics promoted then-assistant coach Mazzulla in September after head coach Ime Udoka was suspended by the club for the entire 2022-23 NBA season for “violating team policies.” Boston is the best team in the league with 42 wins and 17 losses.
