The Toronto Blue Jays have signed free agent Chad Green, a two-year, $8.5 million contract with the New York Yankees for the first seven seasons of his major league baseball career.

According to the Sportsnet network, the package includes options for 2025 and 2026.

The 31-year-old gunner will have to wait before helping his new team, however, as he is still recovering from Tommy John-type surgery he underwent in June. He could therefore at best return to play during the second half of the regular season.

Green played 272 games with the Bronx Bombers, posting a 33-22 record and a 3.17 ERA. Unfamiliar with the role of late game specialist, he made just one save. On the mound, the right-hander’s busiest year was 2021, when he totaled 83 and two-thirds innings.

Shohei Ohtani change de souliers

In addition, Shohei Ohtani has agreed with the company New Balance, which will sponsor the star pitcher of the Los Angeles Angels.

Baseball shoes bearing his image will be available in March, when a limited quantity of 574 pairs will be sold at US$120. This will be one of many campaigns featuring Ohtani.

“As I continue my baseball journey, I am thrilled to join the New Balance family,” Ohtani said in a statement. New Balance is a global brand known for its incredible product innovations, but also for being an authentic brand that empowers its athletes to be themselves. I am thrilled to join them in making a difference.”

Ohtani was previously sponsored by Asics in the apparel business. On the baseball front, he recently agreed to a one-year, $30 million contract, avoiding arbitration with the Angels.

In 2022, he went 15-9 and had a 2.33 ERA, finishing fourth in balloting for the American League Cy-Young Trophy. At bat, he batted .273 and hit 34 home runs. He just failed to retain his All-American MVP award, this time being edged out by Aaron Judge.

Between now and the start of the next campaign, the 28-year-old Japanese will take part in the World Classic, from March 8 to 21. It will be broadcast on TVA Sports.
