RSC Anderlecht experienced a very eventful search for a new striker.
The new attacker of RSC Anderlecht is Islam Slimani. The Algerian comes to the Lotto Park on a free transfer. Björn Engels knows perfectly who he is. In 2016, the Algerian striker was responsible for a very serious injury to Engels during the game between Club Brugge and Leicester City in the Champions League.
In a duel, Engels came down badly and several tendons in the shoulder were torn. Rehabilitation followed which took several months. According to his own words, Engels watched the images of the duel with Slimani hundreds of times. He responded to the incident in a diary for FAN at the time.
“I remain angry. Pushing someone out of frustration, that can happen. But in the pictures I see him looking. Just when Butelle comes out, he pushes me. As if he deliberately wanted to hurt me. And then gestures like he didn’t do anything. I can’t place that,” he said. “Even when I sat there on the floor, moaning in pain, he never came to me. Slimani must also have seen that something was going on. Not showing the slightest sympathy, neither in the game nor afterwards, I find that really sad.”
