J-103. Madagascar through its four boys forming the Ankoay national team will be at the rendezvous of the 3X3 basketball world cup which will take place in Vienna, Austria from May 30 to June 5. Before winning the ticket to Vienna, Ankoay from Madagascar went through all the stages. “It’s been a long-term preparation since 2013. Since that year, the Fmbb has never stopped finding all the devices necessary for the development of 3×3 basketball. The Fmbb saw the potential of the Malagasy basketball players and had an unshakable faith that these 3×3 basketball guys will have a chance to go further. These players have shown that the Fmbb was not wrong in its vision,” said Jean Michel Ramaroson when welcoming these four boys to Ivato after the title of African champion won in December.
The first trial for the African 3×3 basketball championship started in 2017 during the African championship hosted by Togo (3 -5 November 2017). At that time, Madagascar took third place. In 2019, still in the African Championship in Uganda (November 8-10, 2019), Madagascar was ranked fourth. Also in 2019 during the African Games in Morocco (August 21-25, 2019 in Rabat), Madagascar won with a score of 21-19 ahead of Egypt and last year Madagascar was crowned African basketball champion 3 ×3.
Psychological preparation
A title that earned qualification for the Austrian World Cup in three months. To date, seventeen nations out of the twenty qualified for the Austrian meeting are already known and Madagascar is one of them. The preparation of the Malagasy national team has already begun and it will last until the day before the departure for Austria.

The novice status could be an advantage for Malagasy players because as reigning African champions, they are not there by chance. They still have three months to improve because what counts in 3×3 basketball is speed, shooting accuracy and rebounding. If Madagascar knows how to combine these conditions, the band of Livio, Fiary, Elly and Arnol will be able to create a surprise and they will be able to go as far as possible.
The Dtn of the Malagasy Basketball Federation (Fmbb) Angelot Razafiarivony explained that “the preparation of the national team Ankoay boy follows its normal course twice a week. All phases of the game have been reviewed with a magnifying glass and over the week, the level of preparation is increasing because those waiting for the Malagasy national team is not at all a cakewalk. The preparation will continue until the day before the departure to reach Austria”.
